The Extended Sentence Hardship (ESH) Grant provides a one-time payment of $500 to eligible incarcerated individuals in CDCR institutions with ten or more calendar years remaining on their sentences. Eligibility is not affected by parole status or pending appeals. This grant is intended to alleviate some of the psychological and emotional burdens associated with long-term incarceration and to acknowledge the human impact of mandatory minimum sentencing. A total of $7 million in funding is available for the 2025 calendar year. Grants will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, based on the date of application submission.
Please note: Only one application may be submitted per incarcerated individual. Duplicate applications may result in processing delays or disqualification.
